The Local Offer provides useful information and advice on the services and resources available for children and young people with SEND as well as their parents and or carers, and professionals (such as within education) who work closely with a child or young person with SEND. The information included provides individuals and groups with more choice and control to ensure that the appropriate support is chosen to meet need.

At Burneston Church of England (VA) Primary School we recognise that all pupils are entitled to a quality of education and provision that is inclusive and will enable all to achieve their potential. We believe in early identification, removing barriers to learning, positive intervention and working collaboratively with pupils, parents and outside agencies to raise, both, expectations and levels of achievement. Our aim is to provide a positive educational experience for all our pupils, including those with a special educational need or disability, within our caring and supportive school environment where pupils are valued equally and are given opportunities to shine.

Our approach to Special Educational Needs is underpinned by our Christian ethos, which is based on the three key principles of respect, perseverance and fellowship, alongside our whole school vision:

Celebrate: high expectations and aspirations for every learner

Collaborate: teamwork, effective participation and building positive relationships

Pollinate: understanding, exploring and contributing to the wider world

What do others say about our Special Educational Needs provision?

“I love school especially writing. I’m really proud of not reversing numbers in my work anymore and being able to correct my spelling on my own more often.”

“I really like school and there are really great teachers that help me with my learning. I like using a chrome book now because I can read my writing back and see if it makes sense. The teachers can also read it. I like maths the best because I am good at it.

“Everything can be tricky because I have dyslexia, but my teachers and my chrome book help me. I don’t get as frustrated anymore so I feel happier.”

“If I feel worried or stressed I can go to Mrs Smart’s office and get my fidget toys, I haven’t needed them yet but I know they are there.”

“Although my child struggles with transitions, he goes into school happily each morning. This tells me that he feels happy and supported.”

“We are very happy with the progress she is making. Her growing abilities are evident at home and we appreciate the consistent approach between home and school.”

“I couldn’t be happier with the support that my child has received – he is much more confident.”

“School have gone above and beyond to support our child and us and they do a great job at making sure our child is happy and safe at school.”
